Michael Ziegler was born in 1960 in Wels; lives and works in Innsbruck. Since 1994 member of the Tiroler Künstlerschaft. From 1981 to 1988 he studied painting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Salzburg under Peter Prandstetter.
"Michael Ziegler's works are figurative, linear representations on rather small, intimate leaves. His delicate lines are sometimes barely visible - the artist demands an effort from the viewer, who perceives the scene as if through a keyhole. Some of his drawings are based on the artist's own experiences and memories, others come from images of the visual arts or cinema. His drawings live from contrast - from their severity, the subtlety of the drawing style, with which the artist lovingly reduces reality to the black-and-white line, alongside the potential for "colourful" ideas, such as associations, which distilled eroticism, sometimes even sexual friction triggers in us." - Peter Weiermair
